Labor Support
The term ' doula' is a Greek word that
translates to 'slave for the mother'. The
term is used to refer to a woman servant who
helps support the woman through the birthing
process.
Women have been assisting other women through
labor since the beginning of time. Over
time, the increased use of medications and
medial procedures have reduced the natural,
emotional and physical support given to
expectant mothers during this life-changing
experience. Labor or 'birth' doulas are trained
in natural childbirth methods and can help
educate partners , family members and
mother-to-be in the many options they have in
childbirth.

studies have shown that birthing with a doula:
results in shorter labors with fewer
complications'
reduces negative feelings about one's
childbirth experience
reduces the need for pitocin (a
labor-inducing drug), forceps, vacuum
extraction and cesarean sections
reduces the mother's request for pain
